As COVID-19 continues to change the worldwide landscape, AEC firms are continually thinking of ways to keep abreast of changes and market themselves effectively. In SMPS Research Triangle’s September Coordinator’s Club, Jennifer Yaga, an Inside Sales Specialist with Gilbane Building Company, presented an option that firms can embrace to interactively engage their clients all from a screen—dynamic ePublications.
What Are ePublications?
ePublications are interactive documents that can be generated into a weblink and sent via email. To provide a needed layer of privacy, Adobe generates links that are not searchable and are only available to those with whom the link is shared. These interactive documents allow you to embed videos, images, hyperlinks, and animations. Through using the shareable link, you can distribute a document that would be too large to share as a traditional PDF.
How Are ePublications Created?
ePublications can be created using Adobe InDesign. To begin, setup a document for web in standard format. First input content, then add your dynamic features using the Interactive Window. Through this window, you can create animations, buttons, rollover features, and embed videos. Jennifer provided a pro-tip for best results—each interactive element should receive its own name to easily navigate the content as you build your ePublication.
How Are ePublications Used?
There are several ways that your firm can use ePublications:
- Send a leave ahead before an interview. Send the client an interactive document that allows them to meet the team.
- Create proposals utilizing an ePublication.
- Develop a dynamic firm overview that allows readers to interactively engage with your content.

The possibilities for ePublications are endless. What will you create?
